Portlaoise District Court
A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of producing a hurley and assaulting a woman causing her harm.
The man (47), who has a Laois address but cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of assault causing harm and production of an article being a hurley at a location in Laois on January 14, 2026.
Garda Lisa Murray said she served a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP consented to the case being sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on April 21. He said the book of evidence contained one count of assault causing harm and one count of production of an article.

Judge Andrew Cody issued an alibi warning and sent the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on April 21. He remanded the defendant in custody and granted legal aid for one solicitor and one barrister.
