Man allegedly laundered €8,801 in Laois

A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of money laundering €8,801 in Portlaoise. 

Harry Techera (29) of 21 Oakleaf Place, Knockmay, Portlaoise, is accused of money laundering at Oakleaf Place on February 15, 2023. 

Garda Lisa Murray gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

She asked to amend the defendant’s address to read 21 Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise. 

“I think there may have been an error in the address first used,” Garda Murray explained. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the case be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court beginning on April 21. 

Judge Fay agreed to amend the address. She issued an alibi warning and made an order sending the accused forward for trial to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court on April 21. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick requested legal aid for a solicitor and two counsel in the case. 

Judge Fay granted legal aid for a solicitor and one counsel but said Ms Fitzpatrick could apply again to the circuit court. She remanded the defendant on bail to appear before Portlaoise Circuit Court on April 21.
