Safety work is needed at the danagerous junction

A Councillor is seeking safety measures at a junction he called “a death trap” in Killeshin.

Independent Cllr Ben Brennan asked “that Laois County Council put safety measures in place on the junction of the Cuts and Newline Road in Killeshin as it is a death trap.”

Describing the junction as “dangerous,” Cllr Brennan said he believed “there is only one way to do it I think and that is to put two stop signs”.

In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said: “Laois County Council will review and assess this junction and from there will determine what interventions may be required with regards to road safety.”

Cllr Brennan said another dangerous junction had four stop signs introduced and the measure had solved the problem.

Mr Drennan explained that an engineer’s assessment would determine the best possible solution which he said may be stop signs.

Cllr Brennan said it was a busy road and some solution was needed in order to improve safety.

The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District which was held at the newly refurbished Market House in Portarlington.
