Laois Garda Chief says all outdoor event security staff to be licensed in 2023

Private security staff at outdoor events will all need to be licensed by the Private Security Authority, a meeting of Laois Joint Policing Committee has heard.

Chief Superintendent John Scanlan said all of the personnel who will be working at the Electric Picnic or any other outdoor public event in 2023 will be required to have a PSA licence. 

He made the comments at a Joint Policing Committee Meeting in response to a question from a member of the public in relation to vetting security at the Stradbally event. 

Chief Supt Scanlan said up until a few weeks ago there wasn’t a requirement for the employees of security firms to have PSA licences for such events.  “That has all been replaced by PSA 31 2019 which has come into force,” he explained.
