A probation report was ordered for a man who was drunk and told Portlaoise Gardai to drive him home to Tullamore.
Alfie Quinn, 28, of 14 Church Street, Tullamore, Offaly admitted being drunk and disorderly at Hillview, Portlaoise on August 25 in 2021.
Sgt JJ Kirby said gardai found a male lying in a doorway at Hillview on the date in question. He told gardai the house was his aunts. He then flagged down a patrol car and demanded to be driven to Tullamore, said Sgt Kirby. When gardai refused, the accused said, “f**k off, that’s your job”.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was outside his aunts house at the time. She said he hasn’t had a drink in recent months.
“Gardai have enough to be doing without being abused in this way,” said Judge Andrew Cody.
Judge Cody said he wasn’t sure the man had taken steps to resolve his issues. “I am not convinced at present and he is facing three months if he doesn’t convince me,” he said.
He remanded the case back to Portlaoise District Court on March 9 for a probation report.
