Charged over heroin in Portlaoise

A man who was charged with having heroin in Portlaoise has been remanded in custody.

Patrick Kelly, 26, of 36 Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise is charged with possession of heroin for sale or supply at his address on October 13. 

The defendant, who appeared via videolink, is further charged with possession of methadone and obstructing a garda on the same date and with possession of heroin at Lyster Square in Portlaoise on November 23. 

Sgt JJ Kirby said it would be alleged the man had heroin valued at €4,000 and €3,500 in cash at his address on October 13. 

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the defendant in custody by consent to appear again via videolink on January 5 for DPP directions.
