Extra garda patrols.

Additional garda patrols are being deployed in Mountmellick in the wake of the flooding that hit the Laois town this week.

Laois Offaly Garda Chief Superintendent John Scanlon confirmed to the Leinster Express that extra cars would be on patrol around to ensure and vacant houses and businesses are kept secure.

Several families have been forced to stay in hotels or with friends or families as the floods left their homes uninhabitable.

The Army will also be back on duty in Mountmellick to help with the clean up.
