Laois Offaly gardaí are once again hunting a gang of three men after a terrifying attack on a pensioner in his home on Monday night, December 18.
The gang of masked men broke into the house in the Kildangan area of Durrow on the outskirts of Tullamore at around 8pm on Monday night, and demanded money from the man, who is aged in his 70s.
It's understood the man is a retired farmer.
He was beaten by the group with what is believed to be a stick and threatened repeatedly with a knife during the ordeal before they made their getaway. The knife was held to his throat at one point, according to Gardaí.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance where he is being treated for minor injuries and shock.
The attack comes just months after another farmer, 54-year-old Richie McKelvey was attacked by a gang in his home near Birr, an attack which sparked a furious local backlash, resulting in the establishment of a Garda Tak Force to tackle such gangs of roving criminals.
It's unclear as yet what was taken during this latest aggravated burglary. All three men are described as being 5’6” in height, in their 20s and spoke with a local accent.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who might have been in the area or travelling on the main Tullamore to Clara Road between 7.30pm and 8.30pm to contact Tullamore Garda station on 057 9327600 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666111
