Van ploughs into taxi then flees scene in Offaly

Gardai in Portarlington are investigating the circumstances of a hit and run incident in Laois over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The incident occurred on the Portlaoise Rd/Foxcroft St in Portarlington at 2am on Sunday morning, May 6.

A Combi/Caddy style van emerged from a junction and ploughed into a taxi. The van failed to remain at the scene.

The taxi was not carrying any passengers at the time and no serious injuries were reported.

Gardai are endeavouring to catch up with the van driver and people are being asked to report a van that may have extensive damage to the front of the vehicle.

Any person with information on this incident or the van involved are urged to contact Portarlington Garda Station.
