Burglary and second failed attempted burglary in Laois village

There are local reports of a burglary and attempted burglary in a Laois village on Monday morning. 

The Old Orchard garage in Ballybrittas was broken into on Monday morning between 9:00am and 10:00am.

Tools to the value of €400 were stolen.

Following this another incident occurred at 10:00am on Monday morning in Ballybrittas.

A group of five or six men entered a property and tried to steal a lawnmower from a shed.

They were disturbed by the householder and the men fled the scene in a silver car.

Nothing was taken and no damage was done.

Ballybrittas is a small village situated on the R445 about 5 km outside Monasterevin, County Kildare. Formerly on the N7 Dublin - Limerick road, the village is now bypassed by the M7 motorway.

Commercial outlets include a pub, a service station, a shop/post office and a number of small businesses.

Elsewhere, Laois Offaly Gardai are investigating a break-in at an Offaly shop during which extensive damage was carried out by raiders.

The incident occurred Healy's Spar shop in Cloghan over the weekend when two men broke into the shop shortly after 12am on Sunday morning, June 17.

Although it appears nothing was taken, the shop has reported 'substantial damage' inside the store.
