Stradbally man has no drivers licence since 1980's

A Stradbally man has been disqualified and convicted for driving a car with no insurance and failing to produce an NCT cert after it emerged in court he has not had licence in three decades.

Mr Billy Gorman, aged 66, of 20 Woodville Stradbally, was in Portlaoise District Court on November 1. His defence, Ms Thomasina Connell said he made “ a very foolish decision to go to the shop in an old car, he has not had a licence since the mid-'80s”.

The car was seized.

“He no longer drives, he works in Athy and gets transport. He paid the fixed notice for no tax but without a licence, he was not able to get an NCT cert,” she said.

Judge Marie Keane fined him €200 for no insurance and €200 for no NCT.
