A Portlaoise woman has been charged with a public order incident where she kicked a man in the head when he was on the ground.
At Portlaoise District Court, Alison McEvoy (25), Birchgrove, Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise, was charged with being intoxicated in a public place, and threatening or abusive behaviour.
Sgt JJ Kirby gave evidence that on November 24 this year, at Market Street, Portlaoise, the accused was in an intoxicated state, shouting and roaring at a male, and had to be arrested.
Sgt Kirby said she kicked the male in the head while he was on the ground, but she calmed down at the garda station.
The accused had two previous convictions
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said the accused would not generally drink to excess. She is a parent and that weekend her child was with its father, so she met up with a friend and had too much to drink.
Defence said the accused had written a letter of apology to both the court and the gardaí.
“Drink does not suit her,” said Ms Fitzpatrick, .
The matter was adjourned to March 7 for a probation report.
