A man who stole a purse from the waiting area of Portlaoise Prison has been convicted and fined.
Alan Buck (28), 6 Heywood Close, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, was charged with theft, at Portlaoise Prison.
When the case first came before the court in February, Sgt JJ Kirby gave evidence that on April 14 last year, at Portlaoise Prison, a lady was visiting her son and when she came back to the waiting room she found her purse had been stolen with money inside. The purse was subsequently recovered, but €140 inside was not.
In February, the accused paid €100 compensation and the case was adjourned.
At last week’s court, the accused paid an extra €100 and handed in a letter of apology. The accused was convicted and fined €100.
