Portlaoise Garda Station
Gardaí in Portlaoise have detained a man in relation to an attack which left an elderly man injured in the town over St Patrick's weekend.
A man was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday, March 26 arising from an incident which left the man, aged in the 80s, hospitalised with a serious wound to the face.
The suspected, who was aged in his late 20s and from Portlaoise, was released later without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardaí arrested the man as part of an investigation into what was described as an aggravated burglary on Saturday, March 16 at St Brigid’s Place in the town.
