The woman appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court
A woman appeared in court accused of stealing money and making a false report to Laois Gardaí.
Rachel Anne O’Keeffe (46) of Corbally, Abbeyleix, is accused of stealing sums of €1,500, €750 and €510 at Corbally Savings Club between November 4, 2024 and November 15, 2025. She is further accused of making a false report at Abbeyleix Garda Station on November 19, 2025.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed prosecution on indictment at the higher circuit court.
A barrister for the accused said there was also consent to the case going forward to the circuit court on a signed plea should that arise. He requested disclosure and legal aid stating that the woman earned €587 per week and had outgoings of €300.
Judge Tom MacSharry granted legal aid, ordered disclosure and adjourned the case to Portlaoise District Court on December 7 for a book of evidence.
