Two men were remanded on bail in connection with a violent incident at a cemetery in Portlaoise in May.

Daniel McInerney (31), of 25 Jockey Farm, Luton, UK, is accused of affray at SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise on May 31 last.

Gerard McInerney(38) of 12 Chancery Close, Tullamore, Co Offaly, is accused of producing a retractable knife at St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise, on May 31, 2026.

Judge Andrew Cody asked whether bank statements were available for the first accused. He said the man had been in possession of three bank cards from three different banks. However, no statements were available and no decision was made in relation to legal aid.

Judge Cody was told the State was seeking more time in relation to the second accused. He adjourned both cases back to Portlaoise District Court on October 19.
