New Gardaí allocated to Portlaoise

Four new Gardaí coming to Laois following attestation of over 200 new recruits nationally
Four new probationary Gardaí have been allocated to Portlaoise following the attestation of over 200 new recruits nationally.
The additional gardai for Laois has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming who said it will strengthen frontline policing and help keep our local communities safe.
“We now have the highest numbers of Gardaí since the foundation of the State at 14,980 and follows sustained progress in Garda recruitment,” said Deputy Fleming.
“More recruits will enter the Garda College next week, and this demonstrates a strong commitment to increase Garda numbers in communities across the country.”
“The allocation of four new Gardaí to Portlaoise is particularly welcome. Every additional Garda strengthens our local policing service and helps ensure our communities receive the support and protection they deserve,” added Deputy Fleming.
“High visibility policing remains a strong commitment for Fianna Fáil. Visible policing plays a vital role in preventing crime, supporting victims, and providing reassurance to our communities. Continued investment in Garda recruitment and resources is essential to ensure An Garda Síochána can meet the demands placed upon it.
“The work being led by my colleague, Minister Jim O’Callaghan, is delivering real results. Today’s allocation means more Gardaí on our streets and stronger, safer communities.”
There have been ongoing calls for a 24-hour Garda station in Portarlington given the town’s booming population of around 9,000. The Portarlington station also serves surrounding communities such as Emo, Killenard and Ballybrittas.
