The woman appeared before Portlaoise District Court

A suspended sentence was handed down to a woman who drove without insurance in Portlaoise.

Laura Agnes Kerry (42) of 27 Dunamaise View, Portlaoise drove without insurance or a licence at Greenmill Lane, Maryborough, Portlaoise on September 19, 2025.

Andrew Dunne BL said a probation report had been compiled in relation to the defendant.

Judge Andrew Cody said he had read the report and he asked if the woman had previous convictions.

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said the woman had 30 previous convictions including five for driving without insurance and five for driving without a licence.

Judge Cody said “every few years” the woman is driving without insurance.

Mr Dunne said he believed the probation report addressed the timing of her offending.

Judge Cody imposed a six month sentence which he suspended for three years. He disqualified the woman from driving for 15 years and fined her a total of €1,000.
