The driver was fined for having no L plates and driving unaccompanied
An unaccompanied learner driver who had no L plates was fined €1,000 in court.
Ned Cash (21) of 17 Derrymore, Ballymorris Road, Portarlington, was stopped while driving a 2012 black Renault Fluence on the Ballymorris Road on September 7, 2025.
Garda Cathal Burke said the driver was an unaccompanied learner who had no L plates on the car. He said a fine was issued for the L plates but it went unpaid and the defendant had three previous convictions.
Judge Susan Fay fined the man €500 for not having L plates and €500 for driving as a learner while unaccompanied.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick asked Judge Fay to fix recognisance in case of appeal. Judge Fay agreed and fixed recognisance at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
