Well-known businessman Joe Mallon passes away

The late Joe Mallon

Well-known businessman Joe Mallon, who founded the Joe Mallon Motors group, has passed away.

Mr Mallon started in the car business as a teenager and began selling Renault cars and commercials in the 1960s.

The family-owned and family-run business remains the main Renault dealer for Kildare and Laois.

Joe Mallon Motors now employs over 50 people in Naas and at its sister outlet on the Abbeyleix Road in Portlaoise.

The award-winning firm is known for its ability to innovate to cater for market trends and customers' needs.  

The original Joe Mallon Motors dealership opened in Naas in 1986 and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026.

The mantle has been passed on to sons Philip and Anthony and daughter Ethna who all have senior roles in the company.

The company has also generously supported Kildare GAA and is the current sponsor of the County Senior Football Championship and the Coaching and Games Department.

Mr Mallon is sadly missed by his loving partner Patricia and children Ethna, Anthony, Noel, Gemma and Philip and their mother Beatrice.

His is also mourned by his devoted grandchildren Abbie, Ben, Leah, Jack, Ann, James, Lucy, Ciara, Harry, Beatrice and Alice.

He is also sadly missed by sons in law and daughters in law Donnachadh, Richard, Rachel and Eimear.

Also mourning his loss are Patricia's children Sabrina, Alan, Emma, Nicola, Bernard and Georgina as well as Patricia’s grandchildren.

The notice on RIP.ie added: "Joe will also be sadly missed and remembered by his relatives, his colleagues in Joe Mallon Motors and his many neighbours & wide circle of friends."

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
