John Duffy from Laois remembered fondly by all in his community
Heartfelt tributes have poured in following the passing of Laois man John Duffy.
John Duffy of Capard, Rosenallis and formerly Emo Court and Balally, Dundrum, Dublin, died on Wednesday, February 5, surrounded by his loving family at home.
He is greatly mourned by his wife Muireann ní Chonaill who is the Laois Arts Officer for Laois County Council, and their children Doireann, Rossa and Maebh Áine.
Mr Duffy is also grieved by his sisters Catherine Murphy, Helen Metcalfe, Aunt Marjorie, brothers in law, niece and nephews, his neighbours, friends and work colleagues at Emo Court.
He was predeceased by his parents Terry and Kathleen and brother Colm.
The family have received many heartfelt messages of condolences by all who knew him in the community.
Colleagues from the Office of Public Works are among them, where John worked as a talented horticulturalist.
"Dear Muireann and family, Shocked and saddened to hear of John's untimely death. He contributed greatly to the remarkable gardens at Emo Court and was a valued member of the team. Sincerest condolences at this very sad time," one said.
John Duffy had acted with the Ballyfin Players amateur drama group who are among the many paying tributes.
"Deepest sympathies to Muireann and all the family on the sad passing of John. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace," the group said.
"Deepest Sympathies to the Duffy Family on the passing of John. He was a lovely person and talented actor. The stage wont be the same without him. May he rest in peace," a tribute read on RIP.ie.
Another person said, "I was very saddened to hear of Johns passing. I was in the Bots (National Botanic Gardens) with John. He was such a lovely, lovely person. He will be a great loss to the gardening world. Thinking of you all at this time. Xx".

"Muireann, Doireann, Rosa and Maebh Áine, sincere sympathies to you all at this sad and difficult time. I remember John as such a happy and cheerful gentleman any time I met him in Emo Court. Whether I was there with my own children or a class from Emo National School, he was always enthusiastic and full of chat and listened eagerly and patiently to what the children had to say. Rest in Peace John".
Funeral Arrangements:
John Duffy is reposing at his home in Capard, Rosenallis, R32 W923 on Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm.
Removal from his home on Saturday 8th February, arriving at Glasnevin Crematorium for service at 11:30am. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, may be made to The Irish Cancer Society.
