The late Philip (Willie) Treacy from Ballybrophy, Laois.
A Laois family and community are in grief this Christmas, over the shockingly sudden death of a beloved dad of two and grandad of two.
Philip (Willie) Treacy, from Rathmore, Ballybrophy, died on Saturday, December 13, suddenly and unexpectedly.
An air ambulance attended the scene after he was taken fatally ill, while in Rathdowney town centre.
Mr Treacy's family were included in votes of sympathy at the monthly meeting of Laois County Council on Monday, December 13
Cllr John King, representative of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District, offered sympathies to Mr Treacy's loved ones.
"Unfortunately, he was working last Saturday, when he got ill. An air ambulance was floating around and the local fire service done their best to see could they support, but unfortunately he didn't make it," Cllr King said.
In a sad coincidence, he noted that a second Laois man had also died in the area in a sudden manner, separately but on the same day, and offered his condolences to both families.
Sean Geoghegan from Ballacolla has tragically lost his life in a workplace accident.
"These are two men that should have been preparing for Christmas. It is a very sad time for their families," Cllr King said.
Mr Treacy's funeral details have been confirmed.

His is sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife Noreen, son James, daughter Tara, grandchildren Ellie and Harper, father-in-law Frank, brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
