GAA and Laois community mourn passing of Jimmy Lalor Fitzpatrick

The late Jimmy Lalor Fitzpatrick

Mountrath and the wider Laois community is mourning the passing of James (Jimmy) Lalor Fitzpatrick who died last Thursday, January 25.

In his mid '60s, Jimmy died after a short illness.

Jimmy worked in the Department of Agriculture in Portlaoise where he we was well known to many farmers and work colleagues and was regarded as the most courteous and obliging to all he came in contact with. He was, for a while, deeply involved with Mountrath GAA club and was a great worker when development was in progress over the years.

In more recent times he was a regular steward at all the big games in O’Moore Park and will be greatly missed by his fellow stewards.

Laois GAA said they were "saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Lalor Fitzpatrick who was a match day steward in O'Moore Park for many years. Jimmy was also County Board delegate for St Fintan's, Mountrath. We wish to express sympathies to his family and friends."

In recent years Jimmy would organise a staff day for his former colleagues in the Department of Agriculture to the Thyestes race at Gowran Park in Kilkenny. No stone would be left unturned to ensure the smooth running of the day, including tips, but sadly this year will be remembered as the date Jimmy passed to his eternal reward.

Jimmy is deeply regretted by his wife Anne, family Keith, Rowena and Dean, grandchildren, brother, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing is at Burke's Funeral Home Mountrath on Friday evening from 7pm, with Rosary at 9pm. Removal on Saturday morning at 10.30am to St. Fintan's Church, Mountrath, for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by Burial in St. Fintan's Cemetery, Mountrath.
