Deaths in Laois - December 19, 2018

Joseph Duffe - Portlaoise

The death took place on Wednesday, December 19 of Joseph Duffe of Sue Ryder Home, Ballyroan and late of Maket Mews, Marybough Village, Portlaoise.

Peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Theresa, sons Martin, John, Gearoid and Joe, daughter Mary, son-in-law, Seamus, daughters-in-law Catherina, Sharon and Carrie, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at The Chapel of Rest at the Regional Hospital, Portlaoise from 5pm on Friday evening with removal at 6.30pm to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise at 7pm. Requiem Mass at 1pm on Saturday followed by interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

John Roche - Portlaoise 

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of John Roche of Mountrath Road, Portlaoise. 

Passed away peacefully. Ex ESB. Predeceased by his son John. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons Pascal, Peter and Christy, daughters Mary, June and Jacinta (Cindy) , brother Jimmy. Also John, Frank, Mary, Ann, Catherine. Sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegans Funeral Home on Thursday from 6.30pm with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Friday to SS Peter and Paul’s Church to arrive for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

Paddy Crossan - Portlaoise

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of Paddy Crossan of St Brigids Place, Portlaoise, and formerly Shaen, Portlaoise. Peacefully in the care of the staff of Ballard Lodge Nusing Home.

Paddy, beloved husband of the late Colette. Deeply regretted by his loving sons, Michael, Padraig and Kieran, sister Pauline, daughters-in-law. Brother in law. Grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6.30pm, with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Thursday morning to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

May Duffy - Portarlington

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of May Duffy (née McCann) of Cushina, Portarlington and formerly Clonaslee  and Walsh Island. Peacefully after a long illness at Oakdale Nursing Home Portarlington.

Deeply regretted by her loving husband Seamus, sons P.J.,Gussie and Paul, daughters Patricia and Lisa, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at Mahers Chapel of Rest Portarlington on Tuesday from 7.30pm with Rosary at 9pm. Reposing on Wednesday from 4pm with removal at 6pm arriving Church of The Immaculate Conception, Walsh Island at 7pm (via The Pike Road). Requiem Mass on Thursday at 11am. Interment afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery. 

Brigid Ryan - Stradbally 

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of Brigid Ryan (née Greene) of Killmurray, Stradbally and Portlaoise. 

Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael and her son John. Much loved mother of Willie, Anne, Michael, Martin, Séamus, Irene, Martin and Oliver. Deeply regretted by her loving family, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews extended family, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her home on Wednesday from 3pm with rosary recital at 8pm. Removal on Thursday at 11.30am to arrive at The Church of the Assumption, The Heath for 12 noon Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. 

Bobby Lawlor - Rathdowney 

The death took place on Monday, December 17 of Bobby Lawlor of Bawnaughra, Rathdowney. 

Peacefully at Tullamore Regional Hospital. Bobby, recently predeceased by his wife Josephine. Deeply regretted by his family, Joseph, Martin, Bertie and Thomas, daughters in law, grandchildren, his brother Tommy, sister in law Lil, brother in law Fr. Kieran Butler, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Reposing at his home at Bawnaughra on Wednesday with rosary at 9pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11am in The Church of The Immaculate Conception, Galmoy followed by burial in Errill Cemetery. 

Ann Grincell - Mountrath

The death took place on Monday, December 17 of Ann Grincell of "Spring Gardens", Mountrath. 

Peacefully, at the home of her sister Madelene Crowley. Deeply regretted by her brother Jim, sister Madelene, nephews, niece, grandnephews, grandniece, relatives, neighbours, and may friends.

Reposing at the home of her sister Madelene at Cappakeel, Emo on Tuesday from 2pm with rosary at 8pm. Funeral arriving for Requiem Mass at 2.30pm in St. Fintan's Church Mountrath on Wednesday, followed by burial in St. Fintan's Cemetery, Mountrath. 

Ita Gaughan - Clonaslee 

The death took place on Monday, December 17 of Ita Gaughan (née Troy) of Shankill, Dublin and formerly of Clonaslee.

Passed away peacefully in her 96th year at Roseville Nursing Home, Bray. Beloved wife of the late Paddy and loving mother of the late Noel. Sadly missed by her children Eamon, Brian, Marie, Kevin and sister Anna together with their families, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Colliers Funeral Home, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray on Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9pm with prayers at 8.30pm. Requiem Mass on Friday at 12 noon in St. Anne’s Church, Shankill followed by burial in Shanganagh Cemetery.

Edmund Handcock - Rathdowney

The death took place on Friday, December 14 of Edmund Handcock formerly of Middlemount House, Rathdowney. 

At St. Andrew's Hospice, Grimsby, UK. Sadly missed by his sons John and Brian, brothers John, Bertie and Reggie daughter-in-law, grandchildren, extended family, relatives and friends.

Cremation Service to take place on December 28th in Grimsby.

John Doheny - Mountrath 

The death took place on Sunday, December 9 of John Doheny of Birmingham, England and late of Fr. O`Connor Crescent, Mountrath. 

Unexpectedly. Deeply regretted by his parents Jackie and Margaret, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at Burke's Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7pm, with Rosary at 9pm. Removal on Wednesday morning, to St. Fintan's Church Mountrath, for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in St. Fintan's Cemetery Mountrath.
