Deaths in Laois - December 20, 2018

Maureen Cullinan - Spink

The death took place on Wednesday, December 19 of Maureen Cullinan (née Hanrahan) of Boleybeg Spink, Abbeyleix and  Kilkee, Clare. 

At The Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Deeply regretted by her loving son Eamon and daughter Anne-Marie, sisters Rita and Bridie, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her residence from 7pm on Thursday with Rosary at 8.30pm. Removal on Friday evening at 7.30pm to St. Lazarian's Church, Knock arriving at 8pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 11am followed by interment in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Ballinakill, Laois.

Catherine Brennan Sothern - Crettyard 

The death took place on Tuesday, December 19 of Catherine Brennan Sothern (née Brennan) of 49 Feltham Hall, Blackbog Road, Carlow town and Crettyard. 

Unexpectedly, at her home. Beloved mother of Keith and Laura and adored grandmother of Bryan.

She will be sadly missed by her loving son, daughter, mother Margaret (Peggy), grandchild, daughters-in-law Helen and Zarah, brother John, sister Mary, brother-in-law Eugene, former husband Harry, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her home, 49 Feltham Hall, Balckbog Road, Carlow from 3pm to 6pm on Friday. A private Service will take place on Saturday in Newlands Cross Crematorium, Dublin.

Josephine Dineen - Stradbally

The death took place on Wednesday, December 19 of Josephine (Dody) Dineen (nee Walsh) of Riverside Cottage, Main Street, Stradbally. Unexpectedly in the loving care of the staff of Droimnin Nursing Home, Stradbally.

Beloved wife of the late Finbarr. Sadly missed by her loving daughters Mairead, Joanne and Gearoidin, son Barra, daughter-in-law Della, sons-in-law, sister Patricia, brother-in-law Ken, nieces, nephews and her friend Robert, grandchildren, Cara, Oisin, Cathal and Sadhbh. Her great grandchildren Keelin and Aoibheann. Extended family, neighbours and her many friends.

Reposing at her residence at Aughamaddock, Stradbally from 7pm this Thursday evening and all day on Friday with Recital of the Rosary both nights at 8pm. Removal from her residence at Auughamaddock at 11.15am on Saturday morning to arrive at The Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally for 12 noon Requiem Mass followed by Interment in Oakvale Cemetery.

Mary O'Meara - Ballinakill

The death took place on Wednesday, December 19 of Mary O'Meara (née Wallace) of Emerald Cottage, Carrick Slaney, Kilbride, Tullow, and formerly of Mountain View, Marlfield, Clonmel, and Ballinakill.

Peacefully in the care of all at Sonas Glendale Nursing Home, Tullow. Beloved wife of the late Edward. Sadly missed by her loving daughter Emily, sons Seamus, Eamon, P.J., Thomas and Daniel, brother Jack, sister-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her daughter Emily’s residence at Emerald Cottage, Carrick Slaney from 12 noon on Thursday. Removal on Saturday morning to Condon’s Funeral Home, Clonmel. Reposing there from 11.30am until removal to St. Mary’s Church, Irishtown for 1pm Requiem Mass with burial afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Joseph Duffe - Portlaoise

The death took place on Wednesday, December 19 of Joseph Duffe of Sue Ryder Home, Ballyroan and late of Maket Mews, Marybough Village, Portlaoise.

Peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Theresa, sons Martin, John, Gearoid and Joe, daughter Mary, son-in-law, Seamus, daughters-in-law Catherina, Sharon and Carrie, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at The Chapel of Rest at the Regional Hospital, Portlaoise from 5pm on Friday evening with removal at 6.30pm to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise at 7pm. Requiem Mass at 1pm on Saturday followed by interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

John Roche - Portlaoise 

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of John Roche of Mountrath Road, Portlaoise. 

Passed away peacefully. Ex ESB. Predeceased by his son John. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons Pascal, Peter and Christy, daughters Mary, June and Jacinta (Cindy) , brother Jimmy. Also John, Frank, Mary, Ann, Catherine. Sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegans Funeral Home on Thursday from 6.30pm with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Friday to SS Peter and Paul’s Church to arrive for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

Paddy Crossan - Portlaoise

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of Paddy Crossan of St Brigids Place, Portlaoise, and formerly Shaen, Portlaoise. Peacefully in the care of the staff of Ballard Lodge Nusing Home.

Paddy, beloved husband of the late Colette. Deeply regretted by his loving sons, Michael, Padraig and Kieran, sister Pauline, daughters-in-law. Brother in law. Grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6.30pm, with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Thursday morning to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

May Duffy - Portarlington

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of May Duffy (née McCann) of Cushina, Portarlington and formerly Clonaslee  and Walsh Island. Peacefully after a long illness at Oakdale Nursing Home Portarlington.

Deeply regretted by her loving husband Seamus, sons P.J.,Gussie and Paul, daughters Patricia and Lisa, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at Mahers Chapel of Rest Portarlington on Tuesday from 7.30pm with Rosary at 9pm. Reposing on Wednesday from 4pm with removal at 6pm arriving Church of The Immaculate Conception, Walsh Island at 7pm (via The Pike Road). Requiem Mass on Thursday at 11am. Interment afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery. 

Brigid Ryan - Stradbally 

The death took place on Tuesday, December 18 of Brigid Ryan (née Greene) of Killmurray, Stradbally and Portlaoise. 

Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael and her son John. Much loved mother of Willie, Anne, Michael, Martin, Séamus, Irene, Martin and Oliver. Deeply regretted by her loving family, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews extended family, relatives and friends.

Reposing at her home on Wednesday from 3pm with rosary recital at 8pm. Removal on Thursday at 11.30am to arrive at The Church of the Assumption, The Heath for 12 noon Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. 

Bobby Lawlor - Rathdowney 

The death took place on Monday, December 17 of Bobby Lawlor of Bawnaughra, Rathdowney. 

Peacefully at Tullamore Regional Hospital. Bobby, recently predeceased by his wife Josephine. Deeply regretted by his family, Joseph, Martin, Bertie and Thomas, daughters in law, grandchildren, his brother Tommy, sister in law Lil, brother in law Fr. Kieran Butler, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Reposing at his home at Bawnaughra on Wednesday with rosary at 9pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11am in The Church of The Immaculate Conception, Galmoy followed by burial in Errill Cemetery. 

Ita Gaughan - Clonaslee 

The death took place on Monday, December 17 of Ita Gaughan (née Troy) of Shankill, Dublin and formerly of Clonaslee.

Passed away peacefully in her 96th year at Roseville Nursing Home, Bray. Beloved wife of the late Paddy and loving mother of the late Noel. Sadly missed by her children Eamon, Brian, Marie, Kevin and sister Anna together with their families, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Colliers Funeral Home, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray on Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9pm with prayers at 8.30pm. Requiem Mass on Friday at 12 noon in St. Anne’s Church, Shankill followed by burial in Shanganagh Cemetery.
