Laois people have been warned against the danger of fires on bogland, in the wake of a fire near Mountmellick.

A fire crew from Mountmellick managed to put out the blaze, after Mr Lalor raised the alert.

Anthony Tynan is Assistant CFO with Laois County Fire & Rescue Service.

"We had a crew there for two hours. Lighting fires on land is illegal and it also has a high risk of spreading due to the dry conditions. It is devastating for the environment and for wildlife," he said.
