Laois County Council has been requested to carry out drainage works in Abbeyleix, to stop water flowing into residents driveways from the public road.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly made the request, in a motion to the September meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
It is for homes affected on the Knapton Road he said.
"We did some work there 10 or 12 years ago. It is not capable of taking the water it's getting. It is coming down the road into residents' drives," the councillor said.
Cllr Barry Walsh blames climate change.
"Rainfall is heavier now, it obviously needs an upgrade," he said.
In reply, area engineer Wes Wilkinson said he will meet the residents on site along with Cllr Fennelly to examine the issues.
