Laois Mattress Amnesty scheme returned last August
An incredible amount of unwanted Laois mattresses were dumped for free at a recent 'amnesty' day held by Laois County Council.
The day took place in Portlaoise Rugby Club, on Saturday, August 3, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
People came in their droves to drop off not just old mattresses, but bed frames, in what has become an annual free chance to drop off bulky waste in Laois.
When counted up, 729 mattresses and 218 bed bases were taken in, all to be recycled.
The anti-dumping initiative, funded by the state, is aimed at reducing the level of illegal dumping.
