Laois households who are not getting their food and greenwaste compost collected by their bin company, have been told that it is against the law, and to file a report.
Laois County Council says it will take legal enforcement action on companies not providing or collecting compost bins.
The issue was raised by Portlaoise Municipal District Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald, at the March full council meeting.
"Some people in rural areas complain that they are not being collected, or not provided. If they don't have a bin, what are they supposed to do? I got a good few complaints. Grasscutting season is coming up," she said.

The Director of Services with responsibility for environment is Carmel McNicholl.
"There is a legal requirement for waste collectors to provide the brown bin. There is enforcement action being taken nationally. This is not unique to Laois," she said.
She said that anyone who is not getting a brown bin service from their bin company, should contact the environment section of Laois County Council to make an official complaint.
