Laois is to get five new public E vehicle charging parking spaces, but Portlaoise is getting most of them.
Laois County Council has confirmed that they have won cash from the European Just Transition Fund, set up to compensate the Midlands counties most affected by the end of the Bord na Móna peat industry.
Three of the five chargers will be in Portlaoise, at St Mary's Hall on the Dublin Road, at Treo Nua Community Centre in Knockmay, and at Portlaoise Leisure Centre.
The other two new chargers will be installed at the Heritage House in Abbeyleix, and Killeshin Community Centre near Carlow.
They are provided as community e-vehicle charging spaces.
Portlaoise already has multiple public E-car charges, including 10 at the council's carpark beside Portlaoise Train Station. The public was recently warned of fines if they park ordinary cars in those spaces. There are more in Lyster Square, at Lidl and Laois Education Centre.
