Motorists driving through Portlaoise town centre will experience traffic delays for the coming three weeks, starting this Monday, October 20.

Laois County Council is installing an environmentally friendly solution to road flooding on the central road island on James Fintan Lalor Avenue outside Supermacs, called a "rain garden".

They are starting roadworks with "temporary traffic management arrangements" from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding next Bank Holiday Monday).

The traffic delays will last up to Friday, November 14.

They explain the reason as the "Installation of drainage works / rain gardens".
