In an outstanding achievement, five Green Flags were awarded to parks across Laois at the 2025 Green Flag Awards.
Delivered by An Taisce, the Green Flag Awards celebrate and recognise Ireland's best parks and green spaces
Green Flags were awarded to Páirc an Phobail, Memorial Park and Fitzmaurice Park in Portlaoise, as well as People’s Park in Portarlington. Father Breen Park in Abbeyleix was awarded the Community Green Flag.

The Green Flag Community Award is given to community initiatives such as community gardens, community parks, and Tidy Towns projects. The aim of the award is to acknowledge the work of local groups and encourage them to continue to improve their local area.

Commenting on the phenomenal win for the county, Simon Walton, Director of Services at Laois County Council, said: "We are delighted to see Green Spaces in County Laois receiving the recognition they deserve.
