Laois business and GAA club reunite to crown Ireland's fittest team

Laois Chamber Alliance and Emo GAA have teamed up again and are delighted to announce the return of Shine in Emo in 20233 in Emo Court and Parklands.

This year’s event will again see amateur teams taking part in a fun range of sporting events, vying to win the title of Ireland’s Fittest Team, with a total prize fund of €10,000 up for grabs on the day.

Last year’s event attracted thousands of visitors to the historic venue in the shadows of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, There was great excitement as people cheered on the sporting teams in action, with live music on the day and lots to see and do with a range of exhibitors showcasing their goods and services around the main arena. The trade show style event is also returning this year, with the 2022 event attracting over 120 exhibitors representing Laois businesses, from food producers and crafts, to professional services and retailers.

Caroline Hofman, CEO Laois Chamber Alliance, spoke about the early summer event.

“We are really looking forward to collaborating with Emo GAA again this year for this terrific event. The feedback from exhibitors, competitors, and visitors to the event last year were so positive with a huge appetite for Shine to return in 2023 – We are delighted to be able to confirm it will be returning to Emo Court and Parklands, bigger and better than 2022!

"Preparations are well underway, and we have a super team of volunteers involved again this year. We are also extremely grateful to have been granted LEADER funding for the event, and to have amazing sponsors and supporters on board.

"Shine in Emo will be a super day out for all the family, with a range of trade stands exhibiting food, crafts, goods and services, showcasing the very best of everything Laois has to offer. We are so fortunate to be hosting this landmark event with the iconic and unique backdrop of Emo Court House,” she said.

Emo man John Strong is Chairperson of the Organising Committee.

The organisers say Shine is a family-friendly event, with something for everyone, including delicious food stalls, an opportunity to shop with local retailers and meet local businesses, as well as amusements for children.
