Major Irish organisation with 80,000 members chooses Portlaoise for key meeting

One of the country's biggest trade unions has chosen Portlaoise as the venue for big conference of delegates who represent some 18,000 school and education workers in Ireland.
Fórsa trade union’s Education division conference at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise in April.
Fórsa says it represents almost 18,000 education workers including SNAs, school secretaries and caretakers, school completion officers, and administrative staff in Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and technological universities.
The meeting will discuss helping students with additional needs.
"Fórsa's Education division wants to ensure that every student is given the best possible chance of progressing to further or higher education, to training or an apprenticeship. The panel discussion will explore how to maximise employment opportunities for young people who have been supported by their SNA and the implementation of the National Access
Plan for higher education for students with disabilities," it said.
Highlights of the event include:
- Fórsa general secretary and ICTU president Kevin Callinan's address to conference at 12.15 on Thursday (13th).
- A panel discussion on establishing better progression for students with additional needs will take place on Friday (14th).
- Calls for clarity on how children with additional needs can access SNA support and a call for an end to chaotic policy-making by Government.
The meeting will take place from the morning of Thursday 13th until lunchtime on Friday 14th April 2023
With over 80,000 members, Fórsa says it is the largest Irish trade union for the public service, and the second largest trade union in the state.
