TV regular Dr David Coleman is a practicing Clinical Psychologist
One of Ireland's best known child psychologists is coming to Laois to give parents some tips to help their chidren to build resilience.
The Parents' Association of Scoil Mhuire Abbeyleix say they are delighted to present an evening with leading Clinical Psychologist David Coleman entitled Helping Children Deal with their Worries.
"In this presentation, David will focus on understanding how anxiety affects children and families.
"He'll give concrete and practical tips for how to help children deal with the stresses and pressures in their lives and be more resilient. With David's usual blend of information, common sense, sensitivity and humour, and an open forum questions and answers at the end, the talk should be of interest to anyone living with, or working with children," says the association.
Mr Coleman says he has worked with children, teenagers and their families with over 20 years experience.
An Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, UCD, he says the heart of his work is his clinical practice.
"I meet with children and teenagers with a whole host of psychological issues ranging from anxiety, to self-harm, bullying, social isolation, school-related difficulties, family conflict, challenging behaviour, abuse related trauma, coping with chronic medical issues and sometimes work exclusively with parents on their parenting of their family," he says.
The talk takes place on Wednesday, May 10 7:30pm - 10pm at Scoil Mhuire on the Ballyroan Road.
