Abbey Leix House and estate.
St Lazarian's GAA & camogie clubs in Abbeyleix are inviting participants to take part in a fundraising run around the splendid grounds of Abbey Leix House estate.
"Come join us for our annual fun run/walk through the beautiful grounds of Abbey Leix house and farm," says the club in their appeal.
The event takes place at the venue owned by Stipe billionaire John Collison on Sunday, March 24 2024 with an 11am start.
Registration is at the Abbeyleix GAA clubhouse from 10am at Fr Breen Park. The club says there will be cash prizes for first three men and women home.
The event is not just for competitive runners with people also invited to walk and run for fun on the flat bike/buggy friendly route. Family entry is €20. Adults are €10 while its €5 for a child taking part.
Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served in the clubhouse afterward.
It's the latest community event that Mr Collision has hosted at the grand historic grounds since he purchased an 18th century mansion on 1,120 acres in a multi-million euro deal in 2021.
He has also purchased the derelict Millbrook House on the estate formerly owned by the De Vesci family. Laois County Council has approved a planning application for a restaurant and 16-bedroom guesthouse in Millbrook. The application was made by Comhlacht na Féirme Ltd, the company that runs Abbey Leix House for Mr Collision who founded Stipe with his brother Patrick.
