There is much excitement in a Laois town ahead of their upcoming Summer Festival.

Castletown will hold their annual Summer Festival this June 29, with dozens of fun filled activities expected throughout the day.

Organised by Castletown community organisations such as Castletown Vintage Club, Castletown Community Centre, Tidy Towns, ICA, GAA, Naomh Eamonn, Local School Parents Assoc. & Friends, the day promises fun for all.

"Come along and join in this community event and enjoy display of vintage cars, tractors and machines, bouncing castles, festival games, activities for children and adults, and delicious food and snacks!" an organiser said.

The festival will feature various stalls raising funds for local community organisations. In April, a fundraiser in aid of the festival was held in The Castletown Inn.

A table quiz was held with over 19 tables taking part. The two winning teams kindly donated their prize money back to the fundraiser.

This weekend, the festival will see an art competition for children, with entries returned to schools by Friday 27 or dropped to Betty's Shop. The theme of this competition is 'Summer', with all entries  on display in the Community Centre Art Exhibition on Sunday 29 as part of the Summer Festival.

The Community Centre Art Exhibition will feature works from Castletown Artists Antoinette Breen, Monica White, Mike Rafter and Liam Phelan. The exhibition will be on display from 2pm to 5pm, with the Children's Art Competition also on display.
