Laois Sports Partnership are collaborating with Survivalist Ireland to offer a Survival Skills Camp for teens.
Two camps will be run: one for teens aged 10 to 14 years, and one for the 15-19 age group. These camps will take place in Portarlington.
Teenagers aged 10-14 will participate in team building games, focused on physical, mental and problem-solving tasks.
They will do a Wild Lessons class, where they will learn the skill of fire building and outdoor cooking.
Leaders will teach the group how to build shelters, along with learning about nature trails and foraging.
For teens aged 15 and upwards, participants will undergo a Wilderness Survival Challenge, focused on fire, shelter and first aid.
Along with team building games, teens will learn first aid training, nature, wellness and meditation, and participate in resilience tasks. Depending on the location, water crossing challenges may also take place.
These camps will take place at Derryounce, Portarlington on Tuesday August 12 and Wednesday August 13, from 10am to 2pm. The cost is €20 per child.
Tuesday's camp will be strictly for the 10-14 age group, and Wednesday's camp for the older group.
This camp is open to both boys and girls, with registration required with Laois Sports Partnership. Contact Liam at 086 011 1722, or cdso@laoissports.ie.
