"Your support would be greatly appreciated! Laois County Council has kindly nominated us and we are delighted to represent Laois!" the group said.

The IPB Pride of Place Awards are an all-island competition recognizing and celebrating the efforts of communities across Ireland to improve their local areas.

It highlights the positive impact of community development and the importance of civic pride. The awards are run by Co-operation Ireland in partnership with local authorities and sponsored by IPB Insurance.

The competition aims to acknowledge and celebrate the work that communities are doing to enhance their local areas. It encourages community engagement and collaboration to improve the quality of life for residents.

The competition involves a judging process where communities present their achievements and showcase their efforts to a panel of judges.

"The competition focus is about people coming together to shape, change and improve daily lives in their communities," Laois County Council has said.

"Since the competition commenced in 2003, it has impacted on hundreds of thousands of people, all of whom are proud of their place. The competition is based on communities demonstrating directly to the judges their pride in their place by oral presentations where they highlight community activities, culture and many other aspects that contribute to their pride of place," the Council explained.

"It is also important that the community demonstrates a real partnership with their local authority and shows that all sectors of the community are included."

See the Timahoe Male Choir perform on Friday August 22 at Timahoe Heritage Centre from 2:15pm to 5:15pm.
