Do you have trouble spotting fake news for what it is? Have you fallen victim to AI videos, assuming them to be real?

To celebrate International Literacy Day, there is a series of special workshops taking place for Laois locals this week.

Journalist Eimear Ní Bhraonáin, known for her work with The Irish Independent, The Herald, and The Sunday Independent, will host 'Spotting Fake News in Everyday Life- A Media Literacy workshop for Adults' in Laois this week.

This workshop will teach you how to engage with digital media content in a safe way, while learning about the issue of disinformation and it’s impact on society.

"Join our media awareness workshop for adults and learn how to recognise misinformation, verify sources, and stay sharp online—using real Irish examples and practical tips. Interactive, informative, and empowering," Laois Libraries stated ahead of the events.

The workshops will take place in Portlaoise library (Tuesday, September 9 at 11am) and Portarlington library (Wednesday, September 10, 11am). The workshops will take place for one hour, with free entry. Registration for the workshops is required, and can be done so through calling the hosting library.
