Laois locals have been invited to attend a public consultation meeting on the future of a landmark building.

On Monday April 20, locals have the opportunity to share their ideas with appointed consultants on the future of Donaghmore Workhouse and Agricultural Museum.

Laois County Council invites members of the local community, stakeholders and interested parties to this drop-in event.

The evening will also feature the relaunch of the museum's official website, which has been co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Fáilte Ireland EU Just Transition Fund Regenerative Tourism & Placemaking Scheme.

On April 9, funding amounting to €132,209 was announced for the restoration of the building through the Historical Structures Fund.

This funding is for roofing repairs including re-slating, timber repairs to structure, structural repairs to chimneys and associated removal of machinery, renewal of leadwork and repair/renewal of rainwater goods.

In March of 2025, Donaghmore Workhouse was awarded €200,000 through this fund for restoration works.

According to the Office of Public Works, the museum receives an estimated 2,500 visitors each year. It served as a film location for a recent Irish movie called The Light Within.
