Laois woman launches fundraiser to pay for €7,000 fencing to contain 'escape artist' pig

'Escape artist' Arnold the rescue pig needs steel fencing following his repeated break outs

Laois woman launches fundraiser to pay for €7,000 fencing for beloved pig

A Laois woman has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover the costs of fencing for her beloved rescue pig Arnold.

Julie Ann Kelly lives in Ballinakill with her family and adorable rescue animals, along with her mischievous 'escape artist' pig Arnold.

Arnold came to live with Ms Kelly last June, as his previous owner in Tallaght could no longer care for him.

Arnold has only ever known love from the day he arrived on the planet," Ms Kelly explained.
"He has a strong connection with people despite his enormous size. He has won the hearts of people who have come to visit him, and he is the most intelligent escape artist I have ever met. He can open a steel gate with his mouth unlock the clasp and nudge the gate open with his snout."

Ms Kelly explained that the couple have a pond in their garden that they do not wish Arnold to fall in to, as they would be unable to get him out.

"He keeps escaping from his secret garden and we need to get fencing more secure as soon as possible. We have fenced it plenty of times and Arnold has taken down each and every one, so we need to get steel posts and railing to keep him safely in his own garden," she said.

Ms Kelly has been quoted €7,000 for the steel fencing, which she says is massively out of her budget. However, she says that it is vital that Arnold is kept safe. She is hoping to fundraise €3,000 towards the fencing.

"I'm asking if you have a few spare euro to donate to his fencing I would be so grateful. I've raised money for animal charities over the past five years, and realised that I have taken in 17 rescue animals  myself over the years. I'm becoming the charity," Ms Kelly joked.

Arnold is rescued in the company of two peacocks (Winston & Clementine), five hens, three roosters (Nugget, Sunshine & Louie), Bluebell the pig, three dogs (Angel, Missy and Penny), three cats (Houdi, Thandy and Max) & the five fish in the pond (that the family do not want Arnold swimming with).

At the time of this article, the fundraiser has amassed €970 of the €3,000 target.
