LAOIS and its environs in 2011, as seen through the famed lens of Alf Harvey, is captured in all glory in Alf’s new book ‘Life through the Lens 2011’ which was launched in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel last Thursday night.
Following on from the success of his inaugural book last year, the new publication chronicles 2011 on a monthly basis, and reflects the sheer range of activity in the county. From sports to farming, Electric Picnic to local ceilis, Alf’s book acts as the perfect time capsule for the year just passing.
Launching the book, John McNamee, Easons proprietor noted the range and quality of Alf’s output, and the sheer grind and effort that goes into the daily life of his photographic work.
Alf himself thanked his family and also thanked Gillian Reidy of Penhouse Design for her help and support in the design of the book. MC for the night, John Cotter conducted a question and answer session with Alf, detailing the background and history of some of the shots.
Leinster Express Editor Pat Somers noted the depth of Alf’s work and how he was always prepared to go that extra mile to get that special shot.
‘Life Through the Lens 2011’ is on sale in all local bookshops. Alf will do signings in All Books, Lyster Square this Thursday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm, and in Easons on Friday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm.
