AHEAD of the special event in May, Portlaoise Rugby Club launched details of their ‘It’s Strictly Dancing’ fundraising initiative on Wednesday, April 17, in O’Loughlin’s Hotel, Portlaoise.
Over 700 people are expected to attend this dancing extravaganza which will take place on Friday, May 17, in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel.
At the launch, dancers were told who their partners are to be on May 17. Dancers include many well known local people in the community, such as Paul ‘Walla’ Brown, Mark Kavanagh, Ciarán Reilly, Bernadette Rigney, Mags Conroy and Joan White, to name a few.
To get ready for the fundraiser, at least 28 dancers have been taking part in an intensive dancing programme, twice a week with professional choreographer Helen Dunne.
Gearóid (‘Butch’) Horan, one of the dancers who will be strutting his stuff on the night, said that he is really enjoying the twice-weekly dance classes in the run up to the fundraiser.
“I’m not going to pretend that it’s not tough going, but to be honest, I’m enjoying the exercise and we’re having a great laugh at the classes. It’s nearly as tough as a game of rugby,” said Gearóid.
Mr Sloane Cooper, president of Portlaoise Rugby Club, thanked the dedicated committee that are working behind the scenes organising this fundraising initiative.
The main aim of this ‘It’s Strictly Dancing’ initiative is to raise much needed funds for Portlaoise Rugby Club. The overall winning dance couple on the night will receive €1,000 for a club or charity of their choice.
Tickets for ‘It’s Strictly Dancing’ are currently on sale in Portlaoise Rugby Club. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available.
