the countdown is on to one of the glitziest nights in Portarlington’s social calendar.

To date Marie Corcoran, Maria Molloy and Collette Kennedy have raised well in excess of €100,000 for local charities such as The Cuisle Centre, Portlaoise Paediatric Unit, St Vincent’s Hospital, Mountmellick; The Kolbe Centre, Portlaoise; the local branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, Lourdes Committee, Portarlington and St Frances School, Portlaoise, all through their annual charity ball.

The Heritage Hotel, Killenard are rolling out the red carpet for this year’s ball and the recipients are the local Lions Club, who provide support to local people and projects.

Already in excess of 200 tickets have been sold for the big night, and the three ladies are hoping to sell a few more before the ball on Feburary 24 in the Heritage Golf and Spa Hotel, Killenard.

“We’re trying to make as much money as we can for the Lions Club, because as we know they give to all charities,” Marie Corcoran said.

“It’s the glitz and glam night of the year,” she declared, “people always like to support it because it’s for charity.”

The three ladies are hopeful that celebrity solicitor, Gerald Kean and his glamorous partner Lisa Murphy will also be there on the night.

Ger Dunne, president of the Lions Club, and other Lions Club members will also be supporting the ladies.

As always, Keith McDonald and his showband will have everyone on the dancefloor, followed by a disco till the wee small hours.

“We’re lucky to be able to get Keith every year because he is absolutely brilliant,” Marie said.

There is also plenty of top class spot prizes which have been generously donated from local business.

Marie acknowledges the support they receive from the local community.

“I’d like to thanks the people of Killenard and surrounding areas for their continued support. It’s greatly appreciated.”
