THE 16th annual Laois Vintage Limited sponsored road run in aid of the Laois Hospice Foundation will be held on Saturday, August 13 and this year’s event was launched last Friday, July 8 at the Gandon Inn Hotel, Emo.
The official opening and assembly point will take place at Treacy’s Pub, The Heath between 9.30 and 10am, and finish back at Treacys between 3.30pm for tractors and the later time of 4pm for cars, where complimentary meals will be served and commemorative plaques distributed to each participant.
For tractor enthusiasts this year there’s a nice leisurely drive taking in Mountrath, before returning to Treacy’s via The Deadman’s Inn, Ballyfin, for the official stop. This year’s drive for cars will take in the Donaghmore Museum and Workhouse, which tells the story of families who lived and died within the famine workhouse walls before, during and after the great famine. The official stop for light refreshments, also in Donaghmore, will be Mooneys Pub.
Throughout the years this sponsored road run has become a very important fundraising event, and it is only through the dedicated vintage enthusiasts, bucket collectors, and sponsors, who so graciously and generously give of their time and money, that the group have been able to raise so much financial assistance for the local hospice.
The official closing date to ensure entry in the programme is Friday, July 29, and completed entry forms should be forwarded to Noelle Graham, Brockley Park, Stradbally. Anyone who has not been a previous participant and therefore would not have received an entry form is very welcome to join the run, however a small donation on the day towards Laois Hospice would be greatly appreciated. All money received will be donated directly to Laois Hospice.
