A consultant’s report on the proposed dumping of toxic waste near the tip-head at Kyletalesha, Portlaoise, is expected to be completed within the next fortnight.
This was revealed by county manager Michael Deigan at the Laois County Council meeting on Monday. He said he had been informed that a draft of the report was in the post to him, and he promised that the consultant’s findings would be made public.
The report was commissioned early this year after controversy erupted over a plan to dispose of asbestos in Kyletalesha. The asbestos was from Portarlington Power Station.
At Monday’s meeting, Deputy Charlie Flanagan said it was a matter of serious concern and he was personally disappointed that there had been no mention of the consultant’s report. He had understood that the consultant’s findings would have been available before now. What was the present position?
Manager Deigan said it would be inappropriate to tell the consultant to produce something within a certain time. The important thing was that a full and complete study should be made.
