This April, the Youth Work Ireland Laois team will be taking part in one of the most prestigious musical events of the year, as the Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) are taking place once again.
This All Ireland music event gives young people the opportunity to perform and record their own original music, and discover the inner workings of the music industry.
On Saturday March 3, the IYMAs preliminary heat will be held in Kavanaghs in Portlaoise from 1pm to 4pm.
At this concert, young musicians from all around Laois will perform their own original material. From these performers, one act will be chosen to represent Laois at the IYMAs final in Liberty Hall, Dublin.
This will be the third year that Laois has entered the event. Ever since the momentuous victory that the Laois team had in 2010 it has been an annual tradition to enter the competition.
The chosen act will be supported by a youth committee who are currently working with D’Youth Factory: Portlaoise.
The committee are currently working very hard to organise the best preliminary heat they possibly can for the concert in Kavanaghs this Saturday.
Organisers are very interested in hearing from any young musicians from Laois with original material and a craving to perform.
Applications are still available from D’Youth Factory in Portlaoise. Anyone interested can contact either Joe Thompson or Seán Murphy at 057 86 65010.
