Anyone looking for the perfect Christmas present for a Portlaoise GAA fan friend or family member need look no more because a new book is on the market which is in local shops from this week.

Portlaoise GAA ‘One moment in time - a pictorial collection of ‘The Town’ 1887-2013’ was compiled by former secretary and current vice-chair of Laois County Board Mr Peter O’Neill.

The book was launched last week by former Laois All Star and Portlaoise stalwart Colm Browne.

The book is a celebration and recognition of players and officers over the past 126 years.

It includes pictures from hurling and football matches from 1900 to 2013.

The book will be on sale in shops, newsagents, filling stations and cafes around Portlaoise.

A written history of the club by Teddy Fennelly and Brian Delaney is also being compiled and should be published in 2014. See more in this week’s sport.
