It’s been a busy time for the Burbage household in Seskin, Portarlington, with a college graduation and the World Irish Dancing Championships to contest. But the family are now celebrating the success of two of their six children.
Daughter Triona graduated recently from Athlone Institiute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Nursing. Triona has now gone on to do a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Toxicology.
But it is 12-year-old Seán, who is the most recent toast of the family, having won the Boys U13 Championship at the first ever ‘An Comhdhail’ World Irish Dance Championships.
The Championships were held in City West, Dublin over the first week in April. But even at his tender young age, Seán is no stranger to winning and has won numerous championships to date, both at national and international level in the form of South Leinster, Leinster, Scotland and All-Ireland titles to name but a few.
Seán is a pupil of the Gabrielle Lynam School of Dancing, Portlaoise under the guidance of teachers Gabrielle, Carmel and Orla. The dancing school’s success was documented in last week’s Leinster Express.
His teachers there, who have taught him since he was a child say they are very proud of his achievements.
The son of Patrick and Catherine Burbage of Burbage’s Supermarket, Main Street, Portarlington, Seán has a bright dancing future ahead of him.
And although only 12 years of age, Sean is already planning a career on the stage.
